Update on Syltane

Congratulations to Syltane! She graduated from nursing school in March 2012.  Our contact in Haiti told us that she is working as an auxillary nurse and is volunteering in the Healing Hands for Haiti Clinic for 3 months for some additional experience.  She wanted to thank the Girls Giving Group again for their support.

Girls Giving Group - February 1, 2012

Hostess:  Lindsay Martin

Tonight we met to sponsor two students at Rising Star Outreach in India - Sumithra S. and Asha V. Lindsay spent time volunteering here on her trip to India in 2010.

This  organization seeks to defeat leprosy by providing education for and removing the stigma of leprosy from society.

It is estimated that 100 million people worldwide are victims of leprosy discrimination. In India, there are over 700 leprosy colonies.

Through this program, girls have the opportunity to heal from this disease and receive a world-class education and subsequently be placed with the top companies in India. Then they are able to have careers and provide for themselves and their families, and change the stigma of leprosy.
